Accident insurance / UVGZ
Accident insurance is compulsory for employees in Switzerland, including apprentices, interns, home workers, volunteers and employees in training or disability workshops. If the employee works for the employer for more than 8 hours a week, the employer must also be insured against non-occupational accidents. Occupational diseases are treated the same as occupational accidents.
Reimbursement of costs
The UVG pays for medical treatments, such as outpatient treatments by a doctor, dentist or chiropractor, as well as outpatient treatments in hospitals and medications prescribed by them. Costs that are covered for treatment, meals and accommodation in hospitals are paid in the general ward.
Daily allowance
Anyone who becomes fully or partially unable to work as a result of an accident receives a daily allowance from the UVG. This is paid from the third day after the day of the accident and amounts to 80% of the insured salary in the case of full inability to work.
Disabled person's benefit
An IV pension is also paid out through the UVG. Anyone who becomes disabled as a result of an accident is entitled to it. In the case of total disability, the disability pension amounts to 80% of the insured salary.
Integrity compensation
If an insured person suffers permanent damage to their physical, mental or psychological integrity as a result of an accident, a so-called integrity compensation is paid out. This is a lump sum payment.
Helplessness compensation
If the insured disabled person requires permanent help from third parties, a helplessness allowance will be paid out.
Survivor’s pension
A survivor's pension is withheld from the accident insurance if the insured person dies as a result of an accident (or as a result of it). The pension is paid to the widow/widower and their children.
UVG Supplement (UVGZ)
Supplementary accident insurance offers more extensive protection than the mandatory UVG. Coverage can be insured such as loss of wages over CHF 148,200, reductions in benefits due to gross negligence under the UVG, additional benefits in the event of disability or death. In addition, costs in the private or semi-private wards of hospitals all over the world and the obligation to continue paying wages in the event of incapacity to work are covered.
